Health Education Africa Resource Team (HEART) and Amiran Kenya Limited have come together with the mission of helping the less privileged and vulnerable women and children to have a decent livelihood. The partnership has seen Amiran setup 31 Amiran Farmers Kits (AFK) around the country in major HEART Centers in the Coast, Kisii and Nyanza also providing all under the HEART fold with a continuous reliable source of food that is nutritious and an immune booster to the growing children and HIV positive women and children that HEART supports.

Speaking during the launch of the HEART Center and Amiran Farmers Kit in Kisii, Vickie Winkler, President and Executive Director of HEART explained to guests and sponsors that HEART’s mission is to seek partners who will offer a helping hand in empowering current and future generations of the Kenyan people through disease prevention education and economic development. Winkler added that HEART’s Kids for school initiative also termed as the greenhouse project has been a force to reckon with in terms of food security and economic empowerment to communities as they manage crops to feed their families and sell produce grown from the AFK.

HEART partners; Amiran Kenya Limited, Afya Plast, USAID, Lift Up Africa, Segal Foundation and sponsoring Rotary clubs have enabled HEART to put up 12 AFKs in the Coast, 15 in Kisii and 4 in Nyanza. Evans Masese, HEART’s Program Manager revealed that two women groups in Gucha, Nyanza Province that have been able to use the AFK for their benefit, commercializing their produce and successfully diversifying from the AFK to fish farming and beekeeping. Evans spoke about the transparency of the women groups, explaining that all under HEART are expected to bank all income and later submit a bank statement to HEART Headquarters.

The AKF on-site at HEART’s Kisii Center will be used as a training center where Amiran agronomist Joseph Karuga and Amiran trained HEART agronomist, Jared Abuga will together train women groups and the community on the technology to ensure that the HEART greenhouse project is a countrywide sustainable project.
